Japanese Immigration has announced that Japan will be rolling out a vaccine passport to facilitate international travel.
The passport, which can be applied for at your local ward or municipal office beginning July 26th, will indicate the date and type of your covid vaccination but, unlike earlier media reports, will not include information on any PCR tests. The passport may also not be used to facilitate travel to Japan. Vaccinated travelers using the passports will be subject to the same testing and quarantine protocols as unvaccinated travelers when entering Japan.
Japan is currently negotiating acceptance of the passport by other countries. People interested in traveling to another country using the passport are advised to confirm the usefulness of the passport with that country’s relevant authorities.
