The Japanese government is currently exploring the use of digital vaccine passports, which it is expected to roll out later this year.

Jackson Sogo is skeptical that vaccination will be required as a requirement of re-entry for Japanese nationals but thinks there is a good possibility the Japanese government may require it of foreign nationals, even if it means that only foreign nationals will be subject to the requirement.

According to media reports, the government is also exploring use of the passport for domestic purposes, such as dining out, travel and admission to events, but we believe it is highly unlikely any such measures will be taken given the significant portion of the Japanese public that is wary of the vaccine.
